Stage Combat and Fight Choreography Workshop

rj-logo-2In preparation for the spring production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, NBYT is offering a Stage Combat and Fight Choreography Workshop on Sunday, January 22.

The workshop will cover some basic training of stage combat including safely fighting, falling, and using fake stage weapons. Connecticut actor and fight choreographer Rob Richnavsky will lead the workshop for NBYT.

Rob Richnavsky holds a BA in theater from Columbia College Chicago, has been a member of the Society of American Fight Directors since 2005, and is trained in all eight weapons offered by the society.  He also has achieved a second degree black belt in Ketsu-ka and a first degree black belt in Taekwondo. In addition to working locally, he has worked in Chicago and New York.

Workshop Date: Sunday, January 22
Time: 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m.
Location: NBYT at the YMCA, 362 Main Street, Berlin
Ages: 11 and up (adults welcome if space allows)

Current and past NBYT actors and new participants are all welcome to register whether they intend to audition or participate in Romeo and Juliet or not.

Romeo and Juliet will be performed outdoors at the New Britain Museum of American Art in June. The NBYT production will be set in 1967 in recognition of the fiftieth anniversary of the “Summer of Love.” Auditions for the play will be held on February 20 and 22, and a short monologue will be required. Free monologue preparation workshops will be held on February 13 and 15.

Participation in workshops is encouraged, but not required, for anyone planning to audition. To register or get more information, email or call 860-515-8115.
