Our Town

Now that summer productions have ended, we’re catching up on posting photos from our summer performances and events. The first production of the summer was Thornton Wilder’s Our Town performed by the Teen Company and directed by Darren Farrington and Angela Klimaytis.

Although the story of the play takes place in the fictional town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, in the early 1900s, the setting of the play is a theater. The play is traditionally performed without a set (other than a few pieces of furniture), and the actors typically mime their actions without the use of props. In our production, the directors chose to use the raw space as is—making no efforts to hide that building materials and even a few old production pieces were in the space.  Although period costuming was originally used and often still is, the play is now performed just as frequently in modern dress to emphasize the timelessness of its message.
