Season Announced for 2016-17!

2016-17 season runnerNBYT is working to prepare flyers and registration forms and update its calendars and website for auditions, classes, and other programs coming in the new season!

Saturday classes in Stage Performance and improv will continue, and a new musical theater dance class will be added! SquishyTown Asylum, NBYT’s teen improv troupe, and the Select Chorus will also return.

The homeschool enrichment program on Tuesdays will focus on Italian fairy tales, commedia dell’arte, physical comedy, and creating strong characters. New daytime homeschool classes in improv and music will also be offered. Auditions for homeschooled high school students and college students for a touring production will also be held early in the school year. This production and many other new educational outreach programs will be promoted to schools and community organizations in the fall.

Fall productions will focus all of our energy on a big holiday musical production, and special productions for younger children and teens will come in the spring! (Previously announced productions of Godspell and The Brothers Grimm The Gnome will be considered for following seasons.) Here are productions for the season!

Elf the Musical Jr
December 2016 (auditions in September for ages 6-18)
A holiday musical, based on the hit film, about Buddy the elf and his adventure from the North Pole to New York City to find out who his true family is. An opportunity for younger children, ages 4 and 5, to appear on stage may also be added.

Peter Rabbit
April 2017 (auditions in January for ages 6-9)
Peter Rabbit and his friends from many Beatrix Potter books will come to life in a new and original adventure!

The Prince and the Pauper
May 2017 (auditions in January for ages 8-14)
A theatrical retelling of the Mark Twain classic in which Twain himself leads a group of children in his home in playing out the story of two look-alikes from very different backgrounds

William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet
June 2017 (auditions in February/March for ages 12-18)
Shakespeare’s tragic love story will be performed outdoors at the New Britain Museum of American Art, and  the play will be updated to 1967 as a nod to the fiftieth anniversary of the “Summer of Love.” Workshops leading up to auditions will include roundtable readings of the play, stage combat, and auditioning for Shakespeare. Rehearsals will include discussions of the history and culture of 1967.

The Lion King Jr
July 2017 (registration to begin in March for ages 5-14)
Disney’s blockbuster Broadway musical, based on the award-winning film, about Simba the lion cub and his rise to succeed his father as king.
