In preparation for its own Teen Company auditions and musical theater auditions at high school and middle schools all over the area, NBYT is holding Musical Theater Audition Skills Workshops in September. The workshops will be held over two weeks on Wednesdays, September 23 and 30, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at NBYT at the New Britain-Berlin YMCA (50 High Street in downtown New Britain next to the public library). The workshops will be led NBYT Musical Director Angela Klimaytis and Executive Director Darren Farrington.
Participants ages 10 through 18 will gain audition confidence by learning how to handle nerves, prepare themselves, and make a great impression. The workshops will cover specific challenges such as choosing and preparing an audition song and monologue, doing cold readings, handling a dance audition, and many tips and tricks to make a difference and stand out. Participants should come with one or two audition songs (with sheet music if possible) and may bring a monologue. Comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended.
The cost of the two-week workshop is $50, which may be applied to the participation fee for the upcoming NBYT musical revue (with auditions to be held in the first week of October). Participation in the workshops is not required to audition for any NBYT show, and the workshops are also open to anyone not planning to audition for an NBYT production.
A registration form to download and mail is available here. You may also email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 860-515-8115 to preregister and pay at the time of the workshops.
