This past weekend, NBYT Executive Director Darren Farrington directed Getting to Know Rodgers & Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA at St. Peter/St. Francis School in Torrington. (The Getting to Know… series are adaptations of musicals for young performers and audiences.)
Full drama productions are just one of the programs that NBYT can bring into schools. Since 2010, NBYT has provided in-school and after-school theater arts programs to public schools, private schools, homeschool groups, and youth organizations throughout Connecticut. Two types of programs are available. Single-day presentations can take several forms: an introduction to creating theater; acting games and improv; or a focus on understanding and performing a specific dramatic work. Longer programs—either a few days, weeks, or a full school year—can also be customized for any group. Full drama productions can even include set design, costume design, and publicity for your school’s show. Parent or faculty volunteers are welcome and encouraged to help on productions too.
New Britain Youth Theater in-school and after-school educational programs are based upon National Core Arts Standards, and the curriculum for each program is also designed to align with the Common Core State Standards for English and Language Arts.
