Homeschool Performance Program Beginning New Term at NBYT

Homeschool logoAlong with auditions, workshops, and Saturday classes, NBYT is beginning a new term of its homeschool enrichment performance program soon too!

NBYT’s Homeschool Enrichment Program for ages 5 through 14 is offered in two ten-week terms beginning in September and February. Children are grouped by age for some scene work and activities, but groups are flexible and dependent upon enrollment. Drama games, scenes, and music are used to explore acting techniques, voice, movement, and improvisation in order to develop focus and learn to work together as an ensemble.

Each term, the group rehearses a selection of scenes and songs around a chosen theme. Past themes have included American and world folktales; the history of theater (including Greek fables, Shakespeare, commedia dell’arte and radio plays); and land, sea and sky. Last fall, the group performed stories about American folk heroes and legends. In this next term, the children will create a performance about folk tales, heroes, and legends from around the world. The instructors begin with some scenes and music that they’ve chosen, and the children are always encouraged to contribute their own ideas too!

Discussions about props, costumes and set pieces will also include making some items for their own “Share Day” performance for family and friends! The small-scale Share Day performance, with simple costumes and props, will be held during the final class and will be repeated in the evening of the final class. Family, friends and guests are all welcome to attend!

The next term begins on Tuesday, February 3, at NBYT’s location at the New Britain-Berlin YMCA. For a Registration Form to complete and mail, please click here. For more information, or to arrange a visit to NBYT, please email us at or call 860-515-8115.
