The NBYT Teen Company is scheduling additional auditions by appointment for the musical The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The directors are seeking additional males between the ages of 10 and 20, and especially older teens to play some of the adult male lead roles. Those auditioning should prepare either 16 measures of a ballad or 32 measures of an up-tempo song. Actors will also be given pages from the script to read at auditions.
The production will rehearse at NBYT at the YMCA in New Britain. Rehearsals are planned for Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, but not every actor will be called to each rehearsal. Performances will be February 20, 21 and 22 at the Carriage House Theater in Hartford across from the Mark Twain House and Museum. The Twain House will also help to promote the production.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a musical adaptation of one of the best loved stories in American literature. Young Tom Sawyer gets himself into never-ending mischief with best friend Huck Finn, tricks his friends into white-washing a fence for him, sweetens up to Becky Thatcher, hides from Aunt Polly, and narrowly escapes danger in a thrilling and inspirational musical comedy for the whole family. The musical was conceived and written by award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig (Lend Me a Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo) with music and lyrics by Grammy-winning country music songwriter Don Schlitz.
