NBYT’s Homeschool Enrichment Program for ages 5 through 14 is offered in two ten-week terms beginning in September and January. Children are grouped by age for some scene work and activities, but groups are flexible and dependent upon enrollment.
Drama games, scenes and music are used to explore acting techniques, voice, movement, and improvisation in order to develop focus and learn to work together as an ensemble.
Each term, the group will rehearse a selection of scenes and songs around a chosen theme. Past themes have included American and world folktales; the history of theater (including Greek fables, Shakespeare, commedia dell’arte and radio plays); and land, sea and sky. In the 2013-14 season, the homeschool group with work with theatrical adaptations from books, verbal histories, films, music and comics. Each group will also adapt a story into a script of its own!
Discussions about props, costumes and set pieces will also include making some items for their own “Share Day” performance for family and friends! Older children can also choose a special project in performance, directing, writing or design.
The small-scale Share Day performance, with simple costumes and props, will be held during the final class and will be repeated in the evening of the final class. Family, friends and guests are all welcome to attend!
The fall term begins on Tuesday, September 17, at Trinity-on-Main Performance Center. For a Registration Form to complete and mail, please click here.
