NBYT has announced a second season of Fall Drama Classes on Saturday mornings, Wednesday evenings, Monday mornings for preschoolers, and Tuesdays for homeschool students. Registration for all programs has begun for children from any town. Open house hours are planned for families to learn more about NBYT.
Drama Classes include Playtime Theater for ages 3 and 4, Act Your Age! for ages 4 through 7, and Acting 101 for ages 8 through 14. In Playtime Theater, preschoolers will explore their voices, bodies and imaginations and learn to work together through the use of stories, costume pieces, and a different activity each week. This preschool class will meet in four-week terms on Mondays at 10:00 a.m. beginning on September 26. Parent or guardian participation is required.
In Act Your Age! kids are allowed to act like kids…or act like dragons, princesses, forest animals, or superheroes! This introduction to performance will use stories children know to teach them about characters, story beginnings and endings, and how a story is told and performed. Music, games, and activities will let these youngest actors try out various roles on stage. This class will be held on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. beginning September 24, and on Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m. beginning September 21.
In Acting 101, young actors will explore voice, movement, and improvisation as they develop focus and concentration and learn to work together as a group. Students will identify characters and parts of a story, and will portray actions, emotions, and roles in each story. This class will be held on Saturdays at 10:45 a.m. beginning September 24, and on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. beginning September 21.
All classes are held in eight-week terms for one hour at Trinity-on-Main Performance Center Annex at 19 Chestnut Street. A “Share Day” performance for family and friends is held at the end of each term. Scripts and activities in repeating classes are changed each term to challenge both new and returning students.
Homeschool Enrichment Programs for ages 4 through 14 will continue on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for an eight-week term beginning on September 20. Ages 4 through 6 will be introduced to drama through Storybook Theater. In Tales and Legends from Earth, Sea and Sky, children ages 7 through 9 will work with stories from the Earth (with Sea and Sky following in Winter and Spring terms) as well as music, dramatic games, and activities. These young actors will learn to identify characters and parts of a story, collaborate to dramatize a story, and act out activities, emotions, and roles in each story.
In Scene Study through Literature and Drama, children ages 10 through 14 will study voice and movement, character development, and concentration to work together to stage a one-act play based on children’s literature or drama. Dramatic writing will also be introduced this season. All homeschool age groups will also include art and design projects related to performances. Each term will end with an evening performance for family and friends. All group ages are flexible and subject to change based on enrollment. New this season is a two-hour option for ages 4 and 5.
Open houses have been scheduled for families to learn more about NBYT programs, visit Trinity-on-Main, and meet NBYT staff members.
