The NBYT Teen Company will hold its first auditions for the play, I Know I Saw Gypsies, on Sunday, June 5, and Tuesday, June 7, at Trinity-on-Main Performance Center at 19 Chestnut Street in New Britain. Auditions on both days will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The production will be presented on July 29 and 30 in the Trinity-on-Main Recital Hall.
No prior experience is required, and auditions are open to teens ages 13 through 18 from any town. Everyone auditioning should prepare a monologue of twenty to thirty lines from the play; click here for an excerpt from the play. To schedule an audition, call (860) 515-8115 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Pre-scheduled auditions are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome. For this production, no participation fee will be charged. Teens may also contact NBYT with interest in stage management or other production positions.
I Know I Saw Gypsies consists of several short pieces written by high school playwrights and adapted by Tom Erhard. The play deals with teen issues such as lack of popularity, prejudice, bullying, first love, family relationships, and other school troubles. Several of the pieces are comical; many are touching and serious; and all of them are powerful. The production will be simply staged by NBYT Executive Artistic Director David Sousa, and will give young actors the opportunity to explore voice, emotions, monologues, and other acting techniques.
