Fall Homeschool Program: Week One

Homeschool Enrichment Programs began today at NBYT! Two groups of children—one ages four to seven, the other ages eight to ten—started their study of theater production and performance!

The younger children talked about characters, wrote fill-in-the-blank stories, and colored life-size outlines of themselves. Some of their characters were princesses, cats, and even a cheetah-patterned chair! Each week, this group will also read and act out a folktale from a different part of of the USA—going on a virtual roadtrip across America! Today’s story was The Yankee Peddler from right here in Connecticut. The kids also played and danced to Yankee Doodle and learned that it’s Connecticut’s state song!
The older group of kids—ages eight to ten—jumped right into warm-ups and acting games. They’ll spend the fall term working on dramatic adaptations from nineteenth-century children’s literature. Today’s script was The Jungle Book based on the Rudyard Kipling stories.
