Drama Classes

The works of two of the world's greatest poets come together for a special one-week summer program for ages 5 through 14. Like NBYT's Stage Performance class, this is ideal for younger actors, children who want their first experience onstage--or a little more experience--or even older students who aren't able to audition and rehearse for full productions.

The group will be divided by age for some scenes and activities, but all children will explore acting, voice, movement, and improvisation in order to develop focus and learn to work together as an ensemble. Family and friends will be invited into the final 45 minutes on Friday for a share day performance based on works by the Doctor and the Bard!

During the school year, drama programs at New Britain Youth Theater are offered in two ten week terms beginning in September and January. Scripts and activities are changed each term to challenge both new and returning students. Each term ends with a "Share Day" performance for family and friends!

Classes are held at Trinity-on-Main Performance Center at 19 Chestnut Street in downtown New Britain. Schedules are subject to change or cancellation based upon enrollement.

STAGE PERFORMANCE (AGES 6 - 12)

Stage Performance combines the instruction of a drama class with the excitement of being in a show! It's ideal for younger actors, children who want their first experience onstage--or a little more experience--or even older students who aren't able to audition and rehearse for full productions.

The group will study acting techniques, voice, movement, and improvisation in order to develop focus and learn to work together as an ensemble. Each term, the group will rehearse a selection of scenes chosen especially for the children enrolled. The small group size will give each child quality instruction and will guarantee that everyone has a featured part in the performance.

The small-scale performances, with simple costumes and props, are held in the final 30 minutes of the final class and are open to family and friends at no cost.

Offered: Saturdays, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Class Size: 8 (min.) to 12 (max.)

Homeschool Programs

Weekly Homeschool Enrichment Programs at NBYT are offered in two ten-week terms beginning in September and January. Children are grouped by age for appropriate instruction and activities, but groups are flexible and subject to enrollment.

All children will study acting techniques, voice, movement and improvisation and learn to perform together as a group. Scenes will be chosen each term specifically for the children enrolled. Discussions about props, costumes and set pieces will also include making items for their own "Share Day" performance for family and friends!

For more information, or to arrange a visit to NBYT at Trinity-on-Main Performance Center, please call 860-515-8115.
